Turning the Page Together is an apt description of the relationship between Berkeley Heights Public Library and Berkeley Heights Public Library Foundation. Even for the most tech savvy e-book reader it may bring to mind the image of a parent and child reading together. They are turning the page to new adventures, a happy ending or, perhaps, exploring a new subject. Whatever the outcome, sharing and cooperation are integral to the process.

In 2011 the Library and Foundation are joining together to refurbish the Meeting Room. The project includes minor demolition and construction to enlarge the seating area, new carpet, and new tables and chairs. The completed Meeting Room will benefit everyone who attends library programs such as films and musical performances as well as community groups who schedule meetings. In 2010 more than 5,100 people attended library programs and 1,400 attended programs and meetings scheduled by non-library groups.

The Foundation will be starting a fundraising campaign to raise the $16,000 necessary to purchase new tables, chairs, and a film screen. In the spirit of community cooperation the Berkeley Heights Rotary has already donated the profits of the Annual Pancake Breakfast to help purchase the new carpet. Volunteers from L’Oreal USA spent hours painting the Meeting Room walls and shelves. The demolition and construction portion of the refurbishment is being considered for an Eagle Scout project.
